To make it easier for consumers to understand their coverage and make product comparisons, all health insurers must now use the same standard set of clinical definitions and categories to communicate which treatments and services are covered.
To comply with the legislation of these clinical categories, some Territory Health Fund hospital products have undergone minor changes. Depending on your policy, this means that from 1 April 2019, benefits for some procedures or services that you were previously covered for may now only be partially covered (Restricted Benefits*), or in some cases excluded. On a positive note, you may now receive full benefit entitlements for other services that previously had Restricted Benefit entitlements.
You may like to visit the Australian Government - Department of Health website to learn more. You can also read through their information and guidelines on the clinical categories and how this change will impact across all health funds here.
In the following section you can view the changes specific to your policy and find out how you will be affected by these new clinical category classifications.
Indicates the clinical category is a minimum requirement of the product tier and is covered in full.
Indicates the clinical category is a minimum requirement of the product tier covered on a restricted basis.
Indicates the clinical category is not a minimum requirement of the product tier, these are additional clinical categories to the minimum requirements and are covered in full.
Indicates the clinical category is covered on a not a minimum requirement of the product tier and offered on a restricted basis.
Indicates the clinical category is not covered under this product (excluded service).
Closed product |
In the below tables we refer to products that are no longer available for purchase by new Members of Territory Health Fund. These products are referred to as closed products. Members covered by any of our closed products can be assured that we will regularly review the benefits paid under these products to ensure the benefits paid are aligned with the cost of treatment for the services covered. A policy holder will still retain their cover under a closed product as long as they held this closed product cover prior to Territory Health Fund making this product no longer available for purchase. |
